The past few years have proven that the Hip-Hop and Rap albums are as strong as ever, and this year looks promising to continue the trend. This year’s music offers a unique variety of artists and styles that will make for a great year of rap music Drake, Big Sean, and Future have already released albums that have reached the top 10 of the Billboard 100; with Jay-Z, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Logic looking to reach that point when their albums release. While these rappers are not the only ones to release albums this year, they are the most anticipated albums yet to be released to the public. Jay-Z’s new album title and release date has not been released to the public yet, but if it is anything close to his features on songs like Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s “All the Way Up” or his work with Pusha T -- his album might be the one to remember from 2017. However the release of the album is still speculation, since his wife Beyoncé is pregnant, family could become a priority for him. Eminem looks to follow up his critically acclaimed album, “The Marshall Mathers LP 2”, in 2017. Although not much information about the album exists today, Eminem released an 8-minute song titled “Campaign Speech” in 2016 that reminded fans that Slim Shady is still atop of his game, and that word-play is not an issue. Whenever Eminem releases the album, fans will be eager to hear what he has been storing up for the past four years. Eminem has been silent over the last four years. He broke that silence with the release of the song “Campaign Speech” during the election season of 2016. His third album is in the works. Kendrick Lamar is highly regarded as the one of the best rappers of the millennial generation. His fourth album is highly anticipated by his fans. Although he released a mixtape called “untitled unmastered” in 2016, fans are ready for new classics from Lamar’s studio cuts. “I have ideas and I have a certain approach. But I wanna see what it manifests. I wanna put all the paint on the wall and see where that goes.” Lamar says. “I’m pretty excited for his album because I really enjoyed the last two songs he has released in the last two weeks.” McDaniel noted. The new album, which has remained untitled, will be released April 7th. Logic is a rapper on the rise. Although he has no hits that have appeared on the radio besides a feature in Imagine Dragons “Sucker for Pain”, Logic has developed a strong fan base. Last year, he went on tour with another rising star, G-Eazy. The tour was titled “The Endless Summer.” Logic is releasing his junior album, “Everybody”, after impressing many with strong debut and sophomore albums called “Under Pressure” and “The Incredible True Story.” Logic has become one of the most talked about young rappers in the industry. He looks to continue his upward trend with his junior album, “Everybody.” Photo Courtesy of WikiCommons “His last two albums were very good and in his mixtape, "Bobby Tarantino", he was hyping this album up a lot, so that makes me very excited” says WKHS Senior Reid Katz.
Logic also released a “party album” over the summer called “Bobby Tarantino” where Logic hinted that his album would be his “graduation like Kanye.” So if this album is anywhere close to the productions of West’s, fans should be excited. Many more rappers are releasing albums and mixtapes this year including: Lil Yachty, Nicki Minaj, Fetty Wap, Iggy Azalea, Kanye West, French Montana, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Rocky, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Nas, Travis Scott, Bryson Tiller, Young Thug, Metro Boomin’ and 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Rich Homie Quan, and Wale. 2017 looks like a promising year for the some of the best rap music of the millennial generation, the only decision to make is whom to listen to.
